Go...

Sometimes it seems like all I hoping for and reaching for remains just out of my grasp. Just far enough away that I can see it but I just can't seem to get hold of it. A cleaner house. A calmer self. Being a better wife, mother I'm on my tip toes trying, reaching...failing.

Then sometimes I think I have it and I hold on so tight. Sometimes I hold and can't let go. Keeping my kids close. Keeping them safe. Keep it all going. The juggling. Never letting anything fall. Sometimes I'm so scared what could happen, what would happen if if loosened my grip, even just a little bit. So I hold on for dear life.

But see all the reaching and holding on like that is exhausting. And really what do I think I can control?? I foolishly think that holding on so tight or trying to make everything just so will keep us all safe. But what do I really know?

I need to stay planted in right here. I need to loosen my grip, give up the control I think I have. Let Him work. The only thing I need to reach for, the only thing I need to grasp at is Him.

Stop.

Comments

  1. Yes! I can relate to the trying and the grasping and holding on for dear life. It seems He allows me to do that for a while and find how empty and tiring it is. Then I return to Him.

  2. I love how your writing and sharing has been such a huge inspiration to so many people. Including me. I know all about holding on so tight and even know a little about the difficulty of letting go

My Father's Daughter

My Father's daughter... this title...if you've read at all you know what Father I am speaking of. Somehow, tonight I feel like that rebellious teenage girl: angry and sad and wanting her father to figure out what's wrong and fix it as I push him away. I want to be rescued. I want to be told through my tears and all the fear that it's all going to be ok. Life has been unexpectedly hard. And also really amazing... when I have the strength and state of mins to step back (way back) and look at what my Father has done.. This last year though. It beat me up. It was unspeakably hard... I guess I still need to process. To move forward I think I need to come back to one of my first loves. Well two of my loves, really: my Father, my Abba, the One I'd call out to in the middle of the night because I always knew He was there. And the other love? Words. I wrote before how writing is the one thing that could ever make sense of the chaos in my mind. I left it for so long and it ...
